KINGSTON COLLEGE CLASS OF 1980 REUNION PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING
Attendees: Wayne (Chair), Lecky, Leslie, Eric, Patrick, Micheal, Kenneth, Keith, Marlon
Absentee: Maurice, Noel
Venue: Jamaica Civil Service Association Boardroom
Date : 25/7/2019
The meeting started at approximately 6:35 and ended 9:15. The following are the order of the discussion;
1. Confirmation of the re-union week, June 11 – 14, 2020 with,
i. June 11, the morning meets at KC campuses (Melbourne and North Street)
ii. June 11, afternoon meet and greet.
iii. June 12, Dinner/Dance.
iv. June 13, Fun Day/Picnic at Kingston College
v. June 14, Church Service (morning) at KC Chapel
vi. June 14, Brunch after church Service.
2. For the Church Service (already confirmed at the North Street Chapel) mentioned was made on the protocol for the service, considering the Anglican practices etc. Also, feedback from the wider group seeing the varying religious beliefs/liberal views and how if we can facilitate a non-denominational procedure. The lead is Rev Sewell with possible other ministers in the group.
3. The Brunch after the church service is scheduled for Yves Lawla place near Hellshire (used by the 1979 group 40 anniversary). Other secondary options mentioned are Hope Gardens.
4. On June 11 meeting with Principal Dave Myrie handover gifts of personal computers and printers for the IT Lab. These computers will be funded by the 1980 group.
5. In the afternoon of June 11 a ‘Meet and Greet’ session will be done at possible venues:
i. Friends at Deck
ii. Macau
iii. Strathairn
N.B. This lyme will be a Cash Bar/Food (items purchased/settled by individuals).
6. On June 12 a Dinner/Dance (dress casual elegant) and the venue options are Medallion Hall, Christar, Mona Vista Lodge (UWI), Alambrha Inn. A team led by Fitzroy which will decide our honourees (including mentioned of the Principal Dave Myrie, former teacher of History Ms Lewis, Helen Douglas, Branche, Urqhuart, Plummer. The Ancillary staff to be chosen. 1980 class member that have given back selflessly to the school including Hanson, Lennox, Wayne Hewitt all subjected to criteria decided. Mentioned was also stated where Fitzroy may be able to furnish memorabilia e.g. pens and or any items for the group.
7. On June 13 a Fun Day/Lyme at 2a North Street with the following;
i. Football (possible locals’ vs overseas) and to be organised by Patrick Duncan.
ii. Music spin-off organized by Bagga, including DJ Dougie and other contenders.
iv. Cook-out (menu to be decided) and a team lead with Leslie, Maurice for refreshments and food respectively. Contributions of items a welcome.
v. Mentioned was made of the spouses getting involve in this session. A decision will be made on this.
8. Budget will have to be drafted for the Dinner/Dance and Fun Day. Financing sources are contributions, donations and a registration fee of JMD1000 or USD10. The major fundraiser even will be our Raffle running from January to June with several prizes and a major final draw. This is subjected permission from the school (confirmed) and the local Betting and Gambling Association. A VMBS account was opened by Wayne and Patrick for these generated funds and also a BNS account will also be opened (Wayne, Leslie and Maurice). The Raffle lead is Noel Greenland and more will be announced.
9. Attire for our events are causal purple and white polo/t-shirts for the campus tour, meet and greet, fun day. Eric is the lead in the design and our purchase. The church service a KC tie must be worn.
10. One of our needed visibility amongst the KC fraternity is for members of the 1980 group attend the International Dinner/Dance in Fort Lauderdale October 5, 2019. A delegation from the Jamaica group class of 1980 will be in attendance. Of course Baldwin will be the lead on logistics.
11. A sub-committee (some leads and members already formed) for these events are to established and engage/mobilize the necessary procedure and resources required for a successful 40th anniversary. A plan of action will be developed and monitored for effectiveness of these events. The related parties will be contacted and a response is anticipated within 2-4 weeks updating the group.
12. A electronic survey will be carried out to get the feedback from the group on their attendance of our 40th anniversary. Wilfred and Patrick will coordinate this effort.
13. Last but not least a discussion on the awareness of respecting individual opinions, views and controversial issues that can have an effect of isolation, non-inclusiveness. A difficult issue as we knew each other as young adults/teens at KC then, and now a huge gap of 40 years with changing views, principle, beliefs etc. This will need tolerance and sensitivity within the groups
