Class of 1980 Alumni Award Categories and Criteria
The following are the Awards that will be presented during the 40th Anniversary Reunion:
1. Distinguished Alumni Award – recognizes an alumni for their contribution to their field of work. The Nomination form is also shown below
2. Fire Starter Award – Recognizes an alumni or alumnus who embodies the Fortis spirit
3. Founders Award – recognizes an alumni for their community volunteer and civic involvement
4. Outstanding teacher/School professional Award – recognizes a teacher or school professional who have made their impact in the period of 1975 – 1980.
Nomination criteria are shown below and nomination are due by February 29, 2020. All nominations must be submitted via the Class of 1980 Website. After reading the criteria submit your nominees in the form at the bottom of this page:

Outstanding Teacher/School Professional Award
The Kingston College Class of 1980 Alumni Planning Committee invites you to nominate candidates for the Kingston College Class of 1980, Outstanding teacher/School professional Award
Eligibility Requirements
- The nominee must have made their impact in the period 1975 – 1980
- One who inspired and leads his / her students to excel in their school work, big picture approach, might include one on one approach
- Strong relationships with their students and show that they care about them as people.
- An individual who made themselves available to students and parents who need them.
- Earned the respect and admiration by serving as role models for their students and always having the best interests of their students in mind. They gain respect by treating students fairly, setting high expectations and being consistent with discipline.
Nomination/Selection Procedure
Anyone may nominate a Teacher or other School Professional. All nominees will remain on the nominee list for induction. Nominations should consist of up to 200 words addressing the criteria outlined above
The Planning Committee will review the nominations and notify both the inductee and the nominator in April 2020.

Fire-Starter Alumni Award
The term “fire starter” refers to an individual who ignites the flames of passion for the Fortis spirit.
The Fire Starter Hall of Fame award recognizes a member(s) of the Class of 1980 who, through their dedication and passion, guides and supports the members of the Class of 1980 Link-up and Reunion. A solid commitment to excellence while keeping the true spirit of fellowship alive and flourishing.
The Fire Starter Hall of Fame award is given annually in conjunction with Class of 1980 Annual Reunion.
This year, for the inaugural Fire-Starter Award, three (3) individuals will be inducted into the Fire Starter Hall of Fame at the 40th Anniversary Reunion.

How to nominate
Nominations should consist of up to 100 words addressing the criteria outlined above. The nomination should clearly show how the individual has ignited the flames of passion for the Fortis Spirit.

Kingston College Class of 1980
Founders Alumni Award (Community Service Award)
The Founder’s Award is presented to a member of the Class of 1980 who have made an exceptional and outstanding long-term contribution to the community via their volunteer and civic activities.
This award is for a person who volunteers or volunteered their time to improving the community through various contributions and community service. Preferred Categories:
- Assisted or spearheaded a campaign or service that proved beneficial to an individual and/or the community.
- Contributions must be of an extraordinary nature.
- Selflessly gives of their time to improving the community without receiving monetary compensation
- May be considered a mentor to others based upon their volunteer efforts.
Nominations will be assessed on the basis of three main criteria:
- Volunteer contributions
- Notable achievements in that volunteer capacity
- Length of service in a volunteer role.
How to nominate
Nominations should consist of up to 200 words addressing the criteria outlined above. The nomination should clearly show how the individual has made a volunteer contribution above and beyond what might normally be expected, and over a sustained period as well as key achievements.

Distinguished Fortis Alumni Award
The Kingston College Class of 1980 Alumni Planning Committee invites you to nominate candidates for the Kingston College Class of 1980, Distinguished Fortis Alumni Award. This award honors and recognizes alumni who exemplify the values, the tradition, and the successes of Kingston College. Their accomplishments will inspire and encourage Kingston College students to do the same.
The class of 1980 inaugural inductee will be recognized during the Class of 1980 Fortieth Year Reunion Ceremony (June 2020).
Eligibility Requirements
- The nominee must be a member of the class of 1980 (whether they graduated with class or migrated prior to graduation).
- Posthumous nominees will be accepted.
- The nominee must have made a significant contribution to their field of work, or have been recognized for an outstanding achievement, accomplishment, contribution or act that has had a profound and positive effect.
- Any supporting material such as newspaper articles, stories, letters of recommendation, etc. should be submitted with the nomination form. The selection committee will review only the information provided and will not do further research.
Nomination/Selection Procedure
Anyone may nominate a graduate for consideration. All nominees will remain on the nominee list for induction. If a person was nominated, but not selected, additional reference materials may be submitted. Nomination forms are available via the Class of 1980 website.
The Planning Committee will review the nominations and notify both the inductee and the nominator in April 2020.
